Guest Artist Eriko Yamada works in a wide variety of traditional and digital media. Her work includes large scale murals, children’s book illustrations, Web design, package design, and silkscreen print making for an array of uses like skateboards, snowboards and illustrations for satellites.

In 2014 she was Artist-in-Residence for Planet Labs, a San Francisco-based aerospace company, where she inspired engineers with picture storytelling. During the summer, Eriko joined Digital Detox’s Camp Grounded where she led fun arts playshops for participants in this No Digital Devices summer camp for adults.

This summer she is collaborating with local Sandpoint author, Tim Martin, in illustrating and enhancing his second children’s book - yet to be titled - about a cat that changes the color of its coat every day.

Tour participants will see Eriko and Tim at work on the process of creating the flavor, the personality, and the artwork for the children’s book, along with artwork previously finished by Eriko. Working together; blending cultures, ages, experiences, and vivid imaginations-the result promises to be surprising, exciting, and a litter box full of fun! Perhaps you’ll have a great idea for the book’s title, or an image that a child in your life would love to see.

Eriko received her B.A. in illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.
