True artists are those who express themselves, their thoughts and their feelings, through what they make. Some artists have to make art for release of something pent up. Making art helps these people communicate with the rest of us. Given that, Daryl Baird considers himself more an artisan than an artist. He makes what he makes for the challenge of it and the sense of accomplishment derived from finishing something.

These days Daryl works in clay as he has for many years. Daryl is known for his finely-crafted clay boxes but in the summer months he also sculpts large masks from terra cotta clay. During a visit to his Sagle studio you might also catch sight of one or more of the clock frames he has under construction or of some of his fused glass pieces.
